This machine is turning war rubble into brand new bricks to help rebuild Ukraine!

Using mobile block factories, debris like concrete, plaster and even glass is crushed and pressed into interlocking bricks that slot together like Lego, so no mortar or skilled labour is needed.

Developed by Australian non-profit Mobile Crisis Construction, the units are quick to deploy, and in just one week can produce enough bricks to build one school or medical centre, 3 large houses, or 10 small joined houses, meaning displaced families can find shelter much faster.

Founded in 2019 by two engineers, Nic and Blake, who came up with the idea in the pub, MCC is now run by volunteers with backgrounds in engineering, logistics and humanitarian response, training local people to use the machines themselves.

Each unit costs around $80,000 and can produce up to 8,000 bricks in a single day, making it a scalable way to turn destruction into new beginnings.

The UN estimates it would take up to 15 years and half a billion dollars to clear around 40 million tons of war rubble in Gaza, so solutions like this could help families rebuild homes and critical infrastructure much faster.
