Get to know the world of Prairie Style landscape gardening, developed beginning in the late 1800s by landscape architects Jens Jensen and O.C. Simonds, who practiced their ecologically friendly approach throughout the Midwest.

Bob Grese, professor emeritus in the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and strong advocate for ecologically based design and restoration, shares an overview of Jensen’s and Simonds’s work, including key projects in Indiana and Prairie Style’s connection to today’s native gardens.

In addition to his current position at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Grese is former director of the University’s Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum and author of Jens Jensen: Maker of Natural Parks and Gardens and The Native Landscape Reader. He is a fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architects as well as in the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.
